The principle
The managers people actually follow rarely need to remind anyone they're in charge.
New managers often overuse their title in the first few months, because the title is the only thing that feels solid yet. Leaning on it, invoking your role to end a debate, or a quiet "because I said so", burns trust faster than it builds compliance.
The authority that actually works is the kind you hold in reserve. Your team should know it's there without you having to point to it every week. The less you need to use it, the more it's actually worth.
Try this Monday
In your next disagreement with a report, make your case on the merits first. Only invoke your role as the final word if the merits genuinely don't resolve it.
